I was asked to review this book for our school library.While there is some crude language in it, I thought it appropriately depicted life in Liverpool, England during World War II. The book is told in first person--through the eyes of a young teenage boy whose family had moved from Ireland to Liverpool so the father could work and support his family. This historical fiction book is a real eye-opener of what the 70-plus children endured when their ship, which was taking them to safety in Canada, was attacked by a German U-Boat. Most of the passengers on that ship died, but a few of the children made it. I would recommend this for middle-school and high school students.
